This project will give Suzanne the freedom and confidence she needs when she is alone. Her husband will breathe a little easier knowing that she has a companion with her at all times. Seizure response dogs are a special type of service dog, specifically trained to help someone who has epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
Imagine being an adult and never being able to do the things that most adults do out of fear. A seizure-response dog will help Suzanne get over the fear of being caught unaware and alone.
In time, Suzanne's service dog may be able to alert her before the onset of a seizure. This service dog will be trained to recognize and respond and give Suzanne the peace of mind that she will not be alone when she is most vunerable.
This particular project will provide seizure-response dogs for people living with epilepsy, greatly increasing their chances of surviving life-threatening episodes that may arise. This project will also raise awareness about SUDEP to encourage further support of individuals living with epilepsy, their families, and their communities.
