RI has mobilized its Pakistan team to assess and prepare interventions for an estimated 70,000 earthquake-affected people in Ziarat and Pishin districts, Northwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan.
The death toll from the quake, which measured 6.4 on the Richter scale, is now being officially put at 236, with over 400 injured. RI has set up an immediate Mobile Health Unit to serve thousands are homeless and has distributed items such as blankets and tents to protect people from the cold. RI is hoping to support up to 200 families, and about 1500 individuals by providing emergency medical help, blankets and winterized tents.
RI is focused on providing sanitation services, water purification systems, winterized shelter and other life-saving services to the desperate victims who face severe weather conditions.
Due to hazardous travel conditions to remote areas, the task of reaching desperate victims is challenging but RI is extending its capacities to the limit.
